Treatment options

Most forms of cancer are treated through standard excision or radiation. But for high-risk skin cancers — large or recurring cancers, those with unusual microscopic appearance or undefined margins, or those in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face or ears — the leading treatment option is Mohs Micrographic Surgery (MMS).

MMS is used to treat basal and squamous cell cancers, as well as as well as some melanomas and more unusual skin cancers such as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. Please contact us for more information about Mohs Micrographic Surgery. It is a very precise surgical technique that has been proven to minimize the chance of cancer regrowth and lessens the potential for scarring. Because it removes only the cancer-containing tissue, the surrounding healthy skin remains intact. MMS has the highest cure rate of any skin cancer treatment, with a recurrence of only one cancer in a hundred over a ten-year period.

As Medical Director of the Dermatologic Surgery Centre, Dr. Zloty oversees Canada's largest MMS unit. He has performed MMS since 1994 and treats over 700 skin cancer patients annually.
